Classic Canoe Trip 2 August 23-29 Girls

Discovery is our introductory program for 10-12 year olds.  These trips have increased staff:camper ratio of 3:1 and are gender specific.  There are two different styles of Discovery trips, one in 25' Voyageur Canoes, and the other in classic 16' tripping canoes.

After saying good bye to parents, we start our packing process getting everything to fit into 30Ls including sleeping bags, and sorting through all our group gear.  We do a swim test, and go for supper.

After supper we head out on the water and go through the ORCKA Safe Canoe Program which covers basic canoe and rescue skills which we will need for our trip, including canoe over canoe rescues.

Voyageur Canoe or WAR CANOE
Once upon a time, stinky men travelled the highways and by-ways of Lower and Upper Canada trading with local people as they went.  Today at Camp IAWAH stinky kids paddle similar waterways seeking not trade but adventure.  Voyageur canoes are great for learning team work...  The more kids swim, the less they stink!

Algonquin Park
Algonquin Park was established in 1893 as a wildlife reserve and to protect the watersheds of five rivers.  To this day, Algonquin Park, or "The Park" by many, continues to capture people with its beauty.  People come from around the world to see Algonquin, and Discovery goes there too!  We will explore some of the ancient waterways, and try and find some moose, loons, and beavers.

Discovery is about group challenge, evening program, roasting marshmallows, swimming, singing, and eating.

Friday is the last day of our trip.... we shoot to be at our take-out for noon, to be back to camp to get our stuff cleaned up and dried out before supper.

After supper we hope to get in on some recreation at IAWAH, and then sit down with some popcorn to enjoy a slideshow of the week past.

collapseWith many of our programs if you are interested in ORCKA Flatwater certification, A,B,C or D, let our staff know ahead of time that we can prepare for that.
